Lithuania National Coalition

The National Digital Coalition of Lithuania is pledging to establish in the period 2017-2020 a comprehensive strategy to raise public awareness of the importance of digital skills and competences; attract more young people to ICT and other sciences studies and professions; ensure the acquisition of digital skills also when learning other professions and for citizens; support the establishment of IT business and development of the digital market.

Specifically, the National Digital Coalition will run the following activities:

  • Actively participate in the update of the Information Society Development Strategy –  Digital Agenda of Lithuania - and the development and implementation of the new digital literacy curriculum for schools from 1st grade
  • Development and implementation of Fast track to IT trainings targeting 100 employed people
  • Training of low skilled and re-training of 5,000 people
  • Nomination of 300 digital champions in the communities
  • Broadening the awareness raising during EU campaigns (Get Online Week, Coding week,Girls in ICT, Safer Internet Day etc.) reaching 30,000 people
  • Organising 3 yearly events which encourage to use the online learning content – life long learning, open sources
  • Developing 250 e-scouts networks in public libraries – intergenerational programmes
  • Broadening national campaigns on safe internet and e-services usage protecting private data targeted to 30,000 people. 

 

Institutions, companies and organisations agreed to form the National Digital Coalition for the Promotion of Digital Skills for Jobs in Lithuania mission to increase employment and to achieve a more effective use of digital potential and cooperate in implementing information society development programme 2014–2020 Digital Agenda for Lithuania.

This is National Digital Coalition(NDC) established in 2013 as it is described above will continue its cooperation and fully meets the Commission launched the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, together with Member States, companies, social partners, NGOs and education providers, to help meet the high demand for digital skills in Europe which are essential in today's job market and society.

Qualitative Impact

• Motivation and improved digital skills of the Lithuanian citizens to use the ICT;
• Ability not only use but also develop electronic content;
• Better and safer usage of ICT infrastructure.
The planning is based on the assumption that only balanced development of all these areas can lead to sustainable and rapid development of the information society and result in implementation of the objectives envisaged in the Digital Agenda for Lithuania and Europe.

According to the Status report of May, 2017:
- Re-launch of the National Digital Coalition of Lithuania was held on 14th February, 2017
- Safer Internet Week 2017 organized on 6th – 11th February 2017(24 000 participants)
-Get Online Week 2017 organized on 27th March – 2nd April, 2017 (11 000 participants)
-Girls in ICT day was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, ITU joined hands with Kaunas University of Technology and organized a side event for girls interested in robotics (28 girls)
