The objective of this pledge is to help develop the digital skills required in the digital economy as well as focus on training to increase the skills of the labour force. ICON will ensure that its staff members are sent on various training programmes in order to become at the forefront of technology, increase staff retention by 10%, increase levels of job satisfaction by 15% and lift levels of innovation by releasing an ICON product to the market by Q1 of 2018.

ICON will also focus on promoting ICT skills amongst women and girls. It’s already a recognized struggle encountered by many, and we will work on seeing a shift in things by encouraging more females to take up ICT at an education level and continue growing with it as a career. ICON will do so through participating in a minimum of 3 talks (at universities, colleges, schools, events, etc.), workshops and opening internships in various ICT fields to guide, train and motivate young girls to continue growing their career on this path. A minimum of 3 internships will be opened – one in Digital Marketing, one in Software Development and one in Web Design.

ICON will also publish one free whitepaper for public dissemination an ICT topic of our choice. Our last ICT whitepaper discussed and analyzed the use of social media in Malta.

ICON’s clients come from a broad range of industries and include global blue-chip companies and international organisations.

Qualitative Impact

Malta is a small island whose only resource is the human/knowledge capital. Through its rigorous ISO9001 process relating to continuous professional development, ICON will rigorously select quality vendors to offer training, re-training, mentoring and coaching to key resources with the qualitative object of: (i) registering an increase in innovation, (ii) increasing retention, (iii) increasing job satisfaction and effort recognition, (iv) ensuring that staff members maintain recent training certificates on areas which are on the forefront of technology (at present: big data, data analytics, digital marketing and so on).

ICON identifies training needs and provides for the continuous retraining of personnel performing activities affecting quality. Each Manager is responsible for the training requirements of his/her team based on a budget for training allocated by the Board of Directors. The manager shall determine training requirements by assessing the gap (if any exists) between the required skills to perform the job and the actual skills of the employee being assessed. Such manager shall be responsible for preparing a training plan for such team members, when needed, which is itself integrated within the employee's performance appraisal report. ICON also supports self-development projects undertaken on the initiative of employees.

The company will focus on encouraging females to work in any ICT field of their liking by attending workshops and talks, whether be at schools, universities, etc. to. ICON will also open its office doors to any student who wishes to learn more about the industry and jumpstart their career by getting a hands-on experience in an internship with ICON. Interns will have their own mentor and are supported by their team members throughout the internship process.

By publishing a free whitepaper, ICON will greatly help students who wish to learn more about a subject and analyze any data trends in Malta, CEOs who wish to learn more about what their competitors are doing and how to tap into the market to grow as a business, and it will also benefit the public in general who wishes to stay up to date with the ICT industry around us.
