eSkills Malta Foundation

One of the Foundation’s mandates is to ‘contribute to the expansion of ICT educational programmes and related formative initiatives. In line with this mandate the Foundation recognizes the importance of reaching out to career guidance teachers and practitioners who are key influencers in study choices and career aspirations. The Foundation pledges to train 50 / 60 career advisors and guidance teachers coming from state, church and independent schools. The training will take form of informative seminars addressing particular digital skills issues. Through this training the Foundation will highlight the importance of digital skills for employability and the take up of ICT careers. This training will also help dismantle the existing barriers to further take –up of ICT studies. Training has commenced from October 2016.

The eSkills Malta Foundation is a coalition of various representatives from the Maltese Government, industry and education.

Qualitative Impact

This training is aimed at helping career guidance teachers and practitioners and Careers Advisors to increase their knowledge of ICT and digital skills. Through this training the Foundation will highlight the importance of digital skills for employability and the various ICT careers available to those who possess such skills.

The training will also seek to increase the knowledge of Careers Advisors on ICT professions in demand, skills needed for these professions and future developments of the ICT jobs market, so that more effective guidance can be given to students who are about to decide whether to take on an ICT career. The following subjects will be delivered for the proposed training:

1. Different technology areas available and future trends;
2. The work and processes involved in these areas;
3. The different roles and jobs concerning digital environment;
4. The digital skills required for these roles;
5. The usual career paths in the digital environment;
6. The different routes of education and training for a student or job seeker in the digital environment;
7. The existing public and private formal education and training in the digital environment;
8. The industry certifications in the digital world, their value and as an alternative route to formal education;
9. What are vendor and vendor-neutral certifications;
10. The modes of training that can be done by a student or job seeker;
11. The e-Competence Framework and its use to Careers advisors and job advisors;
12. Tips of finding a job in digital skills;
13. Questions and Answers in a discussion format.


The training will also introduce these Careers Guidance Teachers and Careers Advisors to the European e-Competence framework. The adoption of this framework will strengthen HR processes in the continuous professional development of ICT practitioners.
