ECDL Foundation developed and piloted a Digital Marketing module as our pledge for the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs in 2015. In order to build on our previous work, we now pledge to implement the Digital Marketing module in at least 5 EU countries by the end of 2017. Once the module is implemented, it becomes accessible to all persons and organisations in the country through a network of Accredited Test Centres.
This pledge is aimed to tackle the problem of a small share of SMEs who sell online (16%) and across borders (7.5%). These trends are mainly influenced by the lack of managers’ and entrepreneurs’ skills to develop and market their business online. The Digital Marketing module covers core digital marketing topics, including maintaining a presence online, using social media to promote a business, and using online advertising and marketing services. It is particularly relevant for staff of SMEs who need skills to manage an organisation’s online presence and carry out a range of digital marketing activities, students in third level education who are completing a marketing course, and marketing and communications professionals who require an overview of digital marketing techniques to supplement their “traditional” marketing skills.
